The two sections are not supposed to be that close as in the MSTS picture on El.12. At least not today, just in the very beginning (1950's). Only on the Dm/Dm3 the sections are supposed to be that close to each other.
Look here Here you can see the "normal" gap between the sections  He has done just right, and it looks very good
